Pedro Lobo
Sound & Music Trainer
Pedro was born in Lisbon in 1995, but derived from his parents’ profession, he ended up spending part of his childhood between different cities in our country, always heading south, where in 2005 he settled permanently in the border city of Vila Real de Santo António.
He grows up surrounded by the diverse record collections of his two brothers – who are 9 years older than him – but also by the musical influences of his parents.
At that time, the practice of skateboarding and the fascination with graffiti would profoundly mark his musical preferences, with the musical genres Punk-Rock and Hip-Hop standing out.
Around 2011 he also begins to broaden his horizons to electronic music in the wave of Breakbeat, Drum N Bass and Dubstep – with artists such as Prodigy, Pendulum or Skrillex.
Naturally creative, and now intrigued about how Hip-Hop music is created and produced, it is around this time that he begins to incubate the idea of being able to create his own projects using a DAW as a basis, but the lack of knowledge about the concepts, something complex, ends up temporarily dissuading him from this goal.
In 2012, he entered the Biochemistry course at the University of Algarve, and after three years, with the course practically over, he now had some disappointment and frustration regarding the prospects he initially had, and it was then that he decided to freeze enrollment and dedicate himself to professional activity in order to save some money.
He worked at a healthcare company for a few years, becoming part of its staff, but in 2020, with no prospect of career progression, with more maturity to make decisions about his professional future and also motivated by the purchase of a DAW and a dedicated MIDI controller, he made the risky decision to leave the company where he was employed, with a very concrete objective – to enroll in the Musical Creation, Production and Sound Techniques 20/22 course at ETIC_Algarve in Faro.
This decision would completely change the course of his life, as it was at ETIC_Algarve that Pedro definitively discovered his vocation as a sound engineer and music producer, but also later as a trainer.
After the course, in 2023, Pedro completed his training with Top Up Year in Popular Music Production at ETIC in Lisbon, in partnership with Solent University Southampton, and in the same year he returned to the Algarve to join the technical team at the Maria Barroso Municipal Auditorium, in Olhão, where he has worked as a resident sound technician to date.
The following year, he became available to support the team of trainers at the school that helped him find a professional path – ETIC_Algarve – where he has currently taught the Hearing Training module since 2024.
As an artist, he continues to create his instrumental projects, almost always based on Hip-Hop but without a very defined genre, which he signs as Lobo. The same alias, Lobo, is also the one he uses as a DJ, exploring among other sounds, the musical niche Screwed and Chopped – advocated by DJ Screw in the 90s – with songs sung in the Portuguese language and/or credited in Portugal, in a conceptual and pioneering project he called Cassete Cinzenta, and which includes several volumes.
During this time, he continued, as a freelancer, to capture, mix and master sound for various projects, which enriched his experience and portfolio.
