Short Film Folclore Sáfico on Display in the United Kingdom

The short film Folclore Sáfico, by Artemis Andrade, a graduate of the Film and TV Production Course, won a place at the No Reason Short Film Festival, an independent short film festival held in Bristol, UK.
A Film and TV Production Course Project That Took on a Life of Its Own
The short film emerged in the context of the Audiovisual Project module of the first year of the Film and TV Production Course (class 24/26). The challenge for the year was to explore the theme of Tradition. Artemis decided to approach it with a layer of contradiction: linking Portuguese folklore to the discovery of sapphic desire, giving rise to a narrative that is rare in traditional audiovisual representation.
Artemis brought together the world of Portuguese folklore and sapphic desire, creating a story that blends tradition with what is normally silenced. The production involved the whole class and was supported by their teacher, José Jesus.
Synopsis of the Short Film Folclore Sáfico
In Folclore Sáfico, the “traditional love story” becomes an encounter that challenges conventions.
With the Portuguese folk dance group as a backdrop, two young women explore new feelings, far from the judgmental gaze of society.
In an isolated rehearsal room, they discover themselves and the power of their feelings.
The Impact of the Film, Cinema, and TV Production Course on the Training of Professionals in the Video Industry
Projects such as this demonstrate the relevance of the technical and practical training provided by the Film and TV Production Course:
- Encourages the creation of original works with thematic and aesthetic identity
- Promotes practical experience from the first year, with students carrying out their first audiovisual projects
- It involves entire teams of trainees in real production processes and encourages accountability for task distribution in order to form film crews.
- It connects graduates to national and international artistic circuits, with the school encouraging graduates to submit their projects to initiatives such as the No Reason Short Film Festival.
The selection of the short film Folcore Sáfico in the United Kingdom validates the potential of the graduates and reinforces the role of ETIC_Algarve as a training school for new creators in the audiovisual industries.
